How do the citizens of Geelong solve some of the pressing issues in their community?
My Geelong, My Idea was a community-based innovation competition that ran in April 2016. The project intended to spark a deeper regional conversation about Geelong’s future, encourage and facilitate citizen-led action and instil a sense of possibility.
Fostering a culture of ideas
Building capability in the community
Instilling a sense of possibility for the residents of Geelong
In partnership with some of Geelong’s most trusted institutions and iconic brands, My Geelong, My Idea invited residents to submit and vote on ideas to solve some of the most pressing challenges in the Geelong community.
Ideas were then shortlisted via popular public vote with a panel of Geelong community leaders choosing a winning idea. The outcome included a commitment to develop and test the winning idea through a rapid proof-of-concept program supported by Geelong institutions.
Another outcome is that 25 people in Geelong will build their capability to make positive things happen in their community through an innovation program led by a team that has a proven track record of developing and running similar programs for community groups and government.
